This is an outstanding example of an original 1969-dated U.S. Army issue jungle Boonie hat, the classic headgear worn by American troops throughout the Vietnam War. This piece is in mint, unissued condition and is still accompanied by its original mosquito head net—a rare survival after more than 50 years.
The hat is constructed of lightweight, durable OD green rip-stop cotton, specifically designed for use in hot and humid climates. It retains its full form with no wear or fading and features the correct four brass screened ventilation eyelets on the crown for air circulation. The chin cord is present and fully adjustable, exactly as issued. Inside, the original contract label is intact and clearly marked with a 1969 date of manufacture.
This example is a size 6 7/8 and comes in its original protective wrap, underscoring its untouched condition. The Boonie hat was a staple of combat uniforms in Southeast Asia, worn by soldiers of all ranks for both its practicality and comfort. The addition of the insect net made it especially valuable in the jungles of Vietnam, where mosquitoes and tropical pests were constant concerns.
Unissued Vietnam-era Boonie hats with their original nets are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such pristine condition. This is an excellent collector-grade piece of U.S. military headgear—perfect for a Vietnam War collection, display, or museum setting. All items sold are 100% guaranteed.
